Make the most of fig season with the fig burrata Caprese appetizer! Fresh burrata, figs, basil, olive oil, balsamic glaze, salt and pepper taste amazing on their own or scooped onto a slice of your favorite bread!
When it’s fig season I can’t stop buying figs wherever I see them- Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and the Farmer’s market. I like all the different varieties, my favorite being tiger striped. If you love figs as much as I do, or if you are new to figs and just looking for a fun way to enjoy them, then you will love this fig burrata appetizer! Fresh burrata cheese, fresh figs, fresh basil, with aged balsamic, good quality olive oil, salt & pepper make for a delicious appetizer any day of the week! It is essentially a fig Caprese that you scoop up and top on bread, what’s not to love?!

Because there are only a handful of ingredients in this recipe, using high quality ingredients is important!
Fresh figs any variety is great, and you can even use a few different varieties at once for this. Figs that are ripe, but not over-ripe are perfect.
Fresh Burrata is such a creamy and delicious cheese, that combines so well with figs. I like to use Crema di Bufala Burrata from Belfiore Cheese, but any good quality cheese brand will do!
Olive Oil is needed for drizzling. Any good quality olive oil works, always try to use extra virgin olive oil. Colive olive oil is a great oil that I’m enjoying lately, and what I used for this recipe.
Balsamic Glaze adds a rich and complex sweetness in this appetizer. I used Seggiano Super Dense Classic Balsamic Glaze, but you can also simply reduce whatever balsamic vinegar you have on hand to make your own reduction/glaze.
Fresh Basil Leaves add a subtle peppery flavor and make a great garnish for this.
Flake salt & freshly ground pepper
Good quality bread for serving a sliced and toasted baguette works great for this. I’ve been into making this no-knead bread recipe from the NYtimes and that’s what I used.
How To Make Fig Burrata Caprese Appetizer
First, cut and spread the burrata out on your serving platter, I used an 8 X 8 square platter. This step doesn’t look pretty, but once you add all the other ingredients it will look better so don’t panic.
Next, place burrata halves or quarters on the platter. Garnish with torn basil leaves, flake salt and freshly ground pepper. Finally, drizzle with a little olive oil and balsamic glaze. Serve with slices of your favorite bread for guests to make their own fig toasts.
Alternatively, instead of adding these ingredients to the platter and serving alongside bread, you could make crostinis by brushing thinly sliced bread pieces with olive oil and placing on baking sheets to broil for 1-3 minutes until bread begins to brown. Add ingredients onto individual crostinis and serve immediately.
