It’s time for some major recipe inspiration for fig season! I’m excited to share this delightful round-up of unique and delicious fig recipes. Figs have two seasons; quick season in early summer and a second crop that starts in late summer and goes through fall. Figs are such a beautiful fruit with multiple varieties ranging in color from white to dark purple. They are a delicious snack on their own, and also make a great addition to appetizers, salads, pizzas and desserts.
Health BenefitsAlthough figs are not necessarily nutritional powerhouses, these sweet fruits do have some health benefits. Figs are a high fiber food, a high potassium food, and contain calcium. Fig puree (blending 8 oz of water with 1/4 cup water) can be used as a sweetener or fat substitute in many fig recipes.
Selection & StorageFor use in fig recipes select figs that are dry, clean and smooth with unbroken skin. Figs should be soft but not mushy. Store figs in a plastic bag in the coldest part of your refrigerator and use within two days.
