Ingredients for Golden Milk Latte Recipe

Milk is the base of this latte. I have tried many different milks and you can’t really go wrong with dairy, coconut milk, almond milk, cashew milk! You can also play around with mixing two different types of milk.

Turmeric is what gives this golden milk latte the vibrant golden yellow color and also it’s distinct flavor. Turmeric is a member of the ginger family and the plant is known for its healing properties such as its anti-inflammatory effect and positive effect on cholesterol. I prefer to use ground turmeric in this recipe but you can also use fresh turmeric, just thinly slice up a little less than an inch of fresh turmeric for this recipe.

Peppercorns are added to this golden milk latte because the piperine from black pepper works with the curcumin in turmeric to enhance absorption in the body. Plus, the pepper adds a nice depth of flavor, too.

Ginger adds a nice kick of flavor to this golden milk latte. In Ayurvedic medicine, ginger is known as the “universal remedy” which makes sense because there are multiple possible benefits from soothing an upsetting stomach to easing nausea.

Cinnamon is added to this recipe by simmering a whole stick of cinnamon. in the milk, adding flavor as well as powerful antioxidants.

Honey is used to sweeten the drink and you can add an amount that works for you.

Coconut Oil adds extra creaminess to this golden milk. I view this ingredient as optional, especially when I use a milk with higher fat content like whole dairy, full-fat coconut, or cashew milk.

For this recipe I use this milk frother.

This reads almost like a traditional Indonesian wedang recipe, except we don’t use milk. But I can totally see myself making this and enjoying the drink on cold days. 🙂

I loved to read about why you added the specific ingredients, that makes it really helpful to decide why the ingredient is there and if one can switch it with something else. Turmeric is such a wonderful ingredient and this golden milk latte looks exceptional.

    • Thanks Stine! I agree, I love turmeric… just have to be careful not to spill it because I feel like it stains everything!

  7. I need to try this! I don’t like coffee and tea doesn’t quite hit the spot just before bed. This looks so warming and comforting!
