Renee is the creator of Laurel Street Kitchen:
“I’m a freelance journalist, wife and mother trying to navigate family and a sense of identity through food. I feel that I have lots of identities. I was raised in Mexico until the age of eight, when my family relocated to Alabama after the death of my father and my mother remarried an Italian chef. I then married into an Indian family, where a I learned about the strong connection between family and food. What I’m learning is that the more I cook, the more I find myself between all these cultures. They’re different, of course, but similar in so many ways. I’m on a mission to explore more of these foods and the stories around the people that they bring together.”

Sous Vide Flank Steak Tacos with Fennel Slaw and Roasted Red Pepper Salsa
Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 7 hours Total Time: 7 hours 20 minutes
Ingredients: mustard, cumin, salt, ground coriander, flank stead, olive oil, tortillas, bell peppers, tomato, onion, garlic, chile de arbol, apple cider vinegar, salt, vegetable oil, fennel, cherry, arugula, lemon, pumpkin seeds.
The instructions for this recipe require a Nomiku Immersion Circulator but if you, like I, don’t have one (yet!) you can just prepare your flank steak in the oven instead. I love that the slaw includes fennel, which is in season right now.
Curried Macaroni and Cheese with Dill
Ingredients: unsalted butter, coconut oil, panko breadcrumbs, garlic cloves, Madras curry powder, cayenne powder, Pecorino Romano, elbow macaroni, all-purpose flour, buttermilk, coconut milk, extra sharp cheddar, mustard powder, dill.
My family is always down for macaroni and cheese recipes. I love how unique this version is with coconut Milk, curry powder and dill. It’s comfort food with a twist!
Turmeric Cauliflower Steaks with Curried Ghee
Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients: cauliflower, olive oil, lemon juice, turmeric, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, ghee, garam masala.
You guys, I just can’t get enough roasted cauliflower lately. (I included another roasted cauliflower recipe recently in the gluten free low carb meal plan from Isabel Eats). Turmeric is so good for you, adds a nice hint of flavor and amazing vibrant color!
Malaysian Yellow Chicken Curry
Ingredients: boneless chicken thighs, vegetable oil, salt, pepper, fresh ginger, garlic, onion, lemongrass, fish sauce, yellow curry paste, coconut sugar, coconut milk, cilantro, rice or noodles.
Have you used lemongrass before? I only have a few times and I absolutely love the way it smells, at tastes obviously. This recipe requires a blender.
Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Wrap
Ingredients: flatbread, red bell peppers, olive oil, whole wheat naan, garlic hummus, cucumber, red onion, fresh mint, salt. For chutney: cilantro, cumin seeds, yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, serrano pepper, honey.
I love the freshness of this recipe! These wraps are perfect for a light dinner or lunch. The bell peppers, cucumbers and chutney make this a super flavorful recipe!
