I’m so excited to share with you five recipes for winter from The Modern Proper!
Holly and Natalie, the two women behind The Modern Proper believe that sharing food and your home leads to sharing life. Inviting others around dinner tables is a beautiful way to strengthen friendships and build community. They love the challenge of creating menus and experiment with seasonal foods in their own kitchens to share with their families and friends. They have 5 kids between them, so therefore spend a lot of time with them, creating memories with food and in nature. One of things that both Natalie and Holly share is a passion for hosting people in their homes and tend to keep a very open door policy when inviting people in.

Recipes for Winter from The Modern Proper
Ingredients: olive oil, crimini mushrooms, garlic, lasagna noodles, ricotta cheese, goat cheese, flat leaf parsley, salt, ground pepper, fresh mozzarella pasta sauce, red pepper flakes, basil leaves, good parmesan.
No one in my family likes mushrooms besides me but that doesn’t stop me from trying to sneak it into our diets anyway! This is a delicious weeknight recipe that the whole family can enjoy. The recipe calls for fresh mozzarella but shredded mozzarella will work fine too.
Ingredients: chicken, carrots, celery, peas, butter, onion, flour, salt, black pepper, celery seed, garlic powder, fresh thyme, whole milk, stock, puff pastry, egg.
Chicken pot pie is one of the best comfort foods in my opinion, what do you think? And I love that this is basically a one-skillet dish and is so beautiful (although let’s be honest, my puff pastry never looks quite as perfect!). A cast iron skillet is idea for this recipe.
Ingredients: olive oil, onion, carrots, celery stalks, jalapeno, bay leaf, garlic, chicken stock, chicken, salt, ground pepper, fresh dill, swiss chard, lemon, parmesan.
I know I featured a white bean soup in last week’s meal plan, but I just can’t get enough of this flavorful, healthy dish.
Ingredients: butter, olive oil, shallots, leeks, garlic cloves, pears, tarragon, white wine, water, salt, buttermilk, pepper.
I love unique soups like this, especially when tarragon is involved! It is one of my favorite herbs (check out this recipe!) and combines beautifully with pear in this soup.
Ingredients: everything bagel seasoning (poppy seeds, onion flakes, garlic flakes, sesame seeds, coarse salt), pizza dough, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, good quality salami, red onion, jalapeno, castelvetrano olives, olive oil, honey, red pepper flakes.
This pizza is exploding with flavor and a great way to make a gourmet pizza at home. You can make your own everything bagel seasoning or buy some online or at your grocery store. We have been making pizzas most friday nights as a family and we usually make one for the kids with their toppings (usually just cheese or ham & pineapple) and one more adult pizza like this one.
