Butternut & Persimmon Paradise Smoothie for Williams-Sonoma Smoothie Week



In the summer it practically becomes a habit to roll out of bed in the morning and head straight to my trusty blender to make a morning smoothie. When Fall rolls around I’m more likely to head straight for my tea kettle instead but every once in a while I still start the day off right with a smoothie. This week, inspired by Smoothie Week at Williams-Sonoma Smoothie Week I decided to use seasonal ingredients to make a smoothie unlike any I’ve made before, using butternut squash and persimmons that I picked up from the farmer’s market as the base.  I was suspicious about those flavors in a smoothie but paired with kiwi, orange and apple it turned out fantastic.  I sprinkled a few pomegranate seeds on top, which Maverick and I loved but Adelaide and Rick were not fans of, so consider the garnish optional.

Butternut & Persimmon Paradise Smoothie


  • 1/2 apple
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • 1/2 C butternut squash, cubed
  • 1 fuyu persimmon, de-stemmed
  • large handful of ice
  • 1 C liquid, like orange juice or coconut water
  • pomegranate seeds (optional)


  1. Throw all the ingredients in the blender
  2. Blend until desired consistency.
  3. Pour in glass and add pomegranate seeds on top as garnish, if desired.
  4. Enjoy!

  1. Hi, Emily! Now butternut certainly does sound strange in a smoothie, but since I happen to have one on my counter, I just may try this. I looks really interesting – almost like peanut butter in the photo. Thanks for sharing your recipe!

    • I hope you try it! The butternut squash flavor blends right in and I’ll definitely be using it more often in my smoothies.
